Ayyanna elected Assembly Speaker unanimously

Must read

Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu, a senior TDP leader, has been elected as the Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly unopposed. Patrudu’s nomination for the coveted position was the sole filing, leading to his automatic appointment. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, along with ministers Nara Lokesh, K Atchannaidu, Satya Kumar Yadav, and Nadendla Manohar, formally submitted the nomination papers to the Assembly secretary on Friday morning.
Originally slated for 11 am on Saturday, the scheduled Speaker election was cancelled following Patrudu’s undisputed ascension to the role. Patrudu, a prominent BC leader, began his political journey with the founding of the Telugu Desam Party by NT Rama Rao in 1983. Over the decades, he has been elected seven times as an MLA from the Narsipatnam constituency and has served in ministerial capacities under both NTR and Chandrababu Naidu.
In the lead-up to the 2024 elections, Patrudu had announced his retirement from electoral contests, advocating for his son Chintakayala Vijay to enter politics as an MP. Despite this, he was nominated and won as an MLA once again, expressing his aspiration to join Chandrababu’s cabinet.
Instead, due to political considerations in the Visakhapatnam district, Patrudu was selected to preside as Speaker.
Expressing his gratitude upon assuming the role, Ayyanna Patrudu emphasized his commitment to fairness and inclusivity in the Assembly. “I am pleased to be elected as Speaker,” he remarked. “Having served as MLA, Minister, and MP, I aim to be remembered not for my political positions, but for my impartiality and dedication to democratic principles.” He affirmed his intention to provide ample opportunity for opposition members to voice their concerns and opinions during assembly proceedings.
