Tension gripped Kamareddy town as the police arrested BJP State unit president Bandi Sanjay Kumar when the BJP activists, women and farmers tried to scale the gates of the District Collectorate and barge into the premises. The farmers have been on the warpath, demanding that the master plan drafted by the Municipality be scrapped.
Protesters clashed with the police following the arrest of Sanjay Kumar. The BJP leader staged a sit-in at the Collectorate in support of the farmers’ demand.
A large police force was deployed to thwart the attempt by the protesters to scale the gates of the Collectorate.
Earlier, Sanjay, accompanied by the party activists, tried to lay siege to the Collectorate. The women, farmers, and BJP leaders and activists barged into the Collectorate pushing the huge gates open. Sanjay staged a sit-in making it clear that he would not relent till he was allowed to meet the Collector.
Jostling and shoving took place between the police and the BJP activists, women and farmers.
At least one person suffered injuries in the melee and the police shifted him to the hospital in an ambulance.
The agitators raised slogans against the government.
