The Vigilance and Enforcement department seized banned cigarette packets worth more than Rs 3.56 lakh from a general store and its godowns here on Friday.
Official sources here on Friday said that on a tip-off, the vigilance wing along with revenue, legal metrology and commercial taxes officials conducted a raid on Tirumala general stores in Chitturivari street and also on their godowns in Suryanarayanapuram area here and seized banned cigarette packets such as Gold Vimal, Gold Vimal Mit A 10, Gold filter, Vimal gold Black and Paris packets numbering 7,135 and worth over Rs.3,56,750.
The case was referred to the three town police station for registering a criminal case against the shop owner Nunna Haranath for stocking and selling of the banned tobacco products.
Regional vigilance and enforcement officer in-charge Karanam kumar said that stringent action would be initiated against those stocking and selling the banned tobacco products.
