Beauty of Telugu language is cherishable

Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, inaugurated the ‘Krishnaveni Sangeetha Neerajanam’ at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada on Sunday. The ceremony took place in the presence of Ministers RK Roja, Buggana Rajendranath, V Vidyavathi, Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, Malladi Vishnu, Vice Chairman of AP Planning Board and MLA of Vijayawada Central, Rayana Bhagya Lakshmi, Mayor of Vijayawada, Sandhya Purecha, Chairman of Sangeet Natak Akademi, and other dignitaries.
During the event, the Union Minister reflected on the illustrious legacy of Telugu culture and the significant contributions of the Telugu language to classical traditions, creating a remarkable repertoire of timeless compositions. Setting the tone for the event, Sitharaman expressed her appreciation for the efforts to organise the first-of-its-kind grand music festival in Andhra Pradesh. She stated, “I began to learn and appreciate the beauty of Telugu by listening to Tyagaraja and Shyama Sastri Kritis. The beauty of the Telugu language is something to be cherished. The towns and ‘samsthanams’ of the region have immensely contributed to classical music. It is time that we bring those glorious traditions alive for the younger generation.” She suggested that this should become an annual feature and also be held in other prominent towns like Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam, etc.
Minister Roja expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, for bringing the inaugural edition of ‘Krishnaveni Sangeetha Neerajanam’ to Vijayawada and Andhra Pradesh. She emphasised the importance of music and urged the youth to pursue classical music.
Minister Roja also highlighted the contribution of Andhra Pradesh and the Telugu language to the promotion of Carnatic music.
In her welcome address, the Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, remarked that the event aims to commemorate the contributions of the Telugu language in promoting classical music. She emphasised that the festival aims to establish a cultural identity for the region by showcasing local traditions and promoting local artisans, crafts, and cuisine.
The three-day classical music extravaganza will host a variety of activities, including classical music performances by renowned musicians from across the country, as well as an exhibition and sale of regional cuisine, local handicrafts, and handlooms.
The event provides an enchanting glimpse into the glorious Indian classical music heritage and features a diverse array of performances by accomplished musicians. On the first day, during the morning session, the audience was treated to soul-stirring melodies of Nadaswaram by Gonuguntala Brothers, G Nagaraju, and Saibabu from Andhra Pradesh. This was followed by a soulful rendition of Veda Parayanam by the renowned duo from Andhra Pradesh, Dendukuri Sadasiva Ganapati and Dendukuri Kasi Vishwanatha Sharma. The morning session concluded with a captivating Taal Vaadya Kacheri by Umayalpuram K Sivaraman from Tamil Nadu and a captivating Carnatic vocal music performance by N Vijay Siva from Tamil Nadu.
