The five-day Bhavani Deeksha Viramana Mahotsavam (the relinquishment of the vow) concluded on a grand note at the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam, located atop Indrakeeladri, in Vijayawada on Wednesday. The temple priests performed ‘Maha Poornahuti’ at the Yagasala near the Sivalayam atop Indrakeeladri at around 10.30 AM marking the conclusion of the Bhavani Deeksha Viramana.
Amidst the chanting of Vedic hymns, the priests offered a silk sari, pieces of sandalwood, ghee, flowers, and fruits to the Homagundam. They showered the devotees with ‘Aashirvachanam’ (blessings). Kanaka Durga Temple Executive Officer (EO) KS Rama Rao, Sthanacharya Vishnubhotla Siva Prasad Sharma, and other priests supervised the ritual.
Despite expectations of over six lakh pilgrims, the event witnessed a turnout of approximately four lakh devotees during the five days. On the final day alone, around 72,000 devotees visited the temple by 6 PM, according to EO Rama Rao. Special arrangements were made by the NTR district administration, police, and temple authorities to manage the massive influx of devotees, ensuring the smooth conduct of the event.
According to the Temple EO, as many as 3,70,114 devotees visited the temple during this year’s Bhavani Deeksha Viramana. “With the cooperation of NTR District Collector Dr G Lakshmisha, Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu, and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Commissioner HM Dhyanchandra, all arrangements had been made and no devotee faced any inconvenience,” he said.
The authorities provided drinking water facilities, besides medical aid. Over 7.65 water bottles were supplied to the devotees. They had prepared around 20 lakh Laddu Prasadam, of which 17,48,837 laddus were sold. Also, 1.34 lakh devotees had Anna Prasadam.
As many as 55,629 devotees purchased Kesakhandana tickets for head-tonsuring, the EO said.
