Hyderabad will be divided into four city corporations and it will have four Mayors as the city’s population is approaching 1.5 crore, Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said.
Elections to the GHMC are due in February 2026. Speaking as the chief guest at the ‘Urban Infrastructure Summit 2024’ organised by ASSOCHAM at HICC Novotel on Friday, he said that around 40% of the population currently resides within ORR (Outer Ring Road) limits, and this figure is expected to exceed 50% by 2028. Therefore, efforts are underway to expand urban areas and provide infrastructure in Hyderabad.
He blamed BRS leaders for taking a loan of Rs 1,000 crore from JICA for cleaning the Musi River, but now, after losing power, they are raising a hue and cry against the project.
He criticised the opposition for engaging in unnecessary politics while the residents in areas along the Musi River are suffering from severe medical problems.
He lashed out at the opposition’s double standards and said that decisions are being made for building sustainable
infrastructure and ensuring the state’s steady development.
He said that they are working tirelessly to set right the devastation caused in Telangana over the past decade and are moving towards inclusive, sustainable development.
During the event, Venkat emphasised the need for urbanisation in Telangana in line with the rapidly expanding global urban culture. He said the Congress government is laying strong foundations for future development with plans to transform the state’s image by constructing numerous infrastructural facilities.
He said the government is determined to change the face of Hyderabad. The admin is providing roads, ROBs (Road Over Bridges), RUBs (Road Under Bridges), and new link roads.
He also addressed the challenge of solid waste management in urban areas, stating that STPs (Sewage Treatment Plants) are being established to improve wastewater management.
Venkat said that Telangana is the only state in the country providing unlimited floor space in a limited area. In this context, he added that special attention is being paid to fire safety systems, traffic control, infrastructure and facilities.
Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy, along with his cabinet, has launched 19 projects under SPEED (Smart, Proactive, Efficient, Effective Delivery) to accelerate infra development.

The key projects launched under the Musi Riverfront Development Project are the construction of new airports, establishing satellite towns, metro expansion, GHMC restructuring, elevated corridors in Secunderabad and other cities, Regional Ring Road (RRR), High Court building construction, Integrated Residential School Complexes and the new Osmania University building.

He also said building parking facilities on the High Court premises under the PPP model id being considered.

He said that the government has allocated Rs 10,000 crore in the budget for Hyderabad’s development and is moving forward with plans to make Hyderabad one of the most livable cities in the world.

The Telangana government is committed to improving environmental sustainability and with support from the World Bank, efforts are underway to achieve net-zero emissions.

Skill centres are being set up across the state to transform youth into a skilled workforce. He emphasised that the development of urban infrastructure is the foundation for the state’s future.

The public witnessed the government’s efforts to improve living standards during their previous and current tenure. With the collective efforts of the public and various institutions, he expressed confidence that Telangana will continue on the path of progress.

The event was attended by Frank P. Talluto, the US Consul General (Chief Political & Economic Section), Hyderabad, Phoenix Group Chairman Suresh Chukkapalli, Allard University Vice-Chancellor Dr Poonam Kashyap, Rambabu Burugu and ASSOCHAM state representative Dinesh among others.
