Chief Minister N Chandrababu has said that the Centre has cleared two notes related to the Polavaram project and industries in Andhra Pradesh. Speaking at a media conference organised at the Secretariat on Wednesday, the CM said that the Centre has agreed to sanction Rs 12,127 crore for Polavaram and the project is scheduled to be completed by March 2027.
The Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for agreeing to release funds for the Polavaram project, which is the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh. He further demanded that the Centre should release the pending funds. The Polavaram works were never stopped because the Centre has always released funds on time, he said.
“In 2019, soon after the YSRCP government formed the government in the State, bad times started for the Polavaram project,” said the CM. The Polavaram works were crippled in the name of reverse tendering. The works should have been completed by 2021. During the YSRCP regime, the Centre released Rs 8,000 crore along with a PPP letter. Purushothapatnam and Pattiseema lifts have not been used for five years, the CM pointed out.
“With the support of Prime Minister Modi and the Union Ministers, the Polavaram project works are put back on track. We can say confidently that the project will be completed,” he added.
The CM hailed the Centre for taking a historic decision and said Polavaram is a very sensitive project that needs to be taken care off.
Experts concluded that it is better to construct a new diaphragm wall. “We will construct a new diaphragm wall with Rs 992 crore. Our aim is to complete the first phase of the project with a height of 41.15 m by 2027.”
