Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar slammed BJP MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar over his remarks on the Ramzan gift scheme, calling them a reflection of his lack of political awareness. He said that elections always have victors and losers, but the BJP’s obsession with the Congress shows its insecurities.
“If BJP leaders have real strength, let them bring funds and projects from the Centre instead of making baseless comments. Why hasn’t the BJP launched the construction of an eight-lane road from Ramagundam to Hyderabad?” Ponnam asked.
He accused the BJP and the BRS of working together to defeat the Congress, claiming that their political understanding was clear in the recent Graduate MLC elections.
“The BJP and the BRS joined hands to stop the Congress. If MLC elections were held in districts represented by KCR, KTR, and Harish Rao, why didn’t BRS field a candidate? Instead, they chose to side with the BJP,” he pointed out.
Criticizing Bandi Sanjay’s statements, the minister remarked, “As a Union Minister, he should focus on Telangana’s development instead of making immature comments. What did Hyderabad’s own MP Kishan Reddy achieve when he was the Minister for Tourism and Archaeology? Can he list any major projects he brought to Hyderabad?”
Ponnam also questioned why BJP MPs haven’t worked for Telangana’s key projects and why KCR, KTR, and Harish Rao haven’t disclosed where they cast their votes in the MLC elections. “BJP is celebrating an election where they barely scraped through. They didn’t even get a proper majority—so why all the arrogance?” he remarked.
Acknowledging the Congress candidate’s narrow loss, Ponnam assured that a review would be conducted but maintained that this defeat would have no impact on the party’s future.
