Jana Sena Party (JSP) president Pawan Kalyan made significant remarks during his visit to New Delhi on Tuesday. He hinted at the possibility of an alliance between the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and JSP in the upcoming Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing a press conference in the National Capital, Pawan Kalyan underlined the need for opposition parties to unite and collectively challenge the ruling YSRCP led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. He expressed concerns about the state’s future if YS Jagan’s party retains power, stating that it would lead to a regression for Andhra Pradesh.
Regarding the differences between the TDP and the BJP, Kalyan claimed to be unaware of the specifics but expressed confidence that the two parties would contest the elections together. He mentioned that while the JSP collaborated with the TDP in the 2014 Assembly elections and subsequently separated in 2019, both the JSP and the BJP joined forces in 2020 with the shared goal of removing YS Jagan from power.
When asked about the Chief Ministerial candidate for a potential TDP-JSP alliance, Pawan Kalyan stated that such decisions would be based on the parties’ grassroots strength. He said that the identity of the next Chief Minister would become clear only after the election results.
Pawan Kalyan’s primary focus is on ousting the YSRCP from power and promoting overall development in the State. However, he acknowledged that there is a desire among JSP members for him to become the Chief Minister.
Speculation surrounding the Telugu Desam Party’s position has re-emerged in the State’s political circles. Although the TDP has not received an invitation to the meeting, it has expressed its interest in rejoining forces with the BJP, having left the alliance earlier due to disagreements over the special status issue for the State.
