Stones were hurled at the car of BJP national general secretary Y Satya Kumar at Uddandarayunipalem village near here when he was going back after attending the Amaravati region farmers’ meeting on Friday.

The agitation of Amaravati farmers, who have given their lands for the construction of the capital city, entered 1200 th day today. The farmers have been agitating for the last four years in protest against the government’s move of shifting the Executive capital from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam.

The Amaravati region farmers, to mark the 1200th day of their agitation, organised a meeting. When BJP national general secretary Satya Kumar was going back after addressing the farmers’ meeting, a group of people, said to be the activists of ruling YSRCP, pelted stones when Satya Kumar’s car was passing through the seed acceded road.
The YSRCP and BJP activists clashed on the road for some time after the attack but the police dispersed them.

BJP leader P Suresh told the media that the YSRCP activists enquired about the former minister and BJP leader C Adinarayana Reddy who was not in the car.

Later talking to the media, Satya Kumar alleged that the ruling YSRCP activists attacked his car with stones. He would not be scared of such attacks. The BJP activists could counter the attacks but did not since the BJP wants to protect the democratic system. When thousands of farmers were organising a dharna, very few police were deployed there, he flayed.

Satya Kumar alleged that the attack on his car took place as per the directions of MP Nandigam Suresh. He said that he would take the incident to the notice of BJP central leaders. He appealed to the State DGP to take stringent action against those who attacked his car.

Leaders of various political parties including the Left, Janasena, TDP, and the Congress met the agitating Amaravati farmers and extended their solidarity with their agitation, opposing the shifting of the Executive capital city from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam.

Meanwhile, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu condemned the attack on Satya Kumar’s car. The attack on Satya Kumar’s vehicle was pre-planned, he said, alleging that the police did not respond appropriately.
