BJP activists led by BJP Kisan Morcha district president Tulimilli Srinivas staged a darna in front of the Collector’s office here on Wednesday demanding the government to extend needed help to the Michaung cyclone affected farmer.
The BJP activists organised a darna, holding placards and raising slogans demanding the government to pay crop loss compensation to the cyclone hit farmers. Later they submitted a representation to the Joint Collector Rajakumari urging them to take steps to extend help to the cyclone hit farmers.
Addressing the gathering, AP Kisan Morcha state vice president V Panduranga Vithal urged the government to purchase paddy produce from the cyclone hit farmers irrespective of moisture percentage. The government should purchase entire paddy produce from the farmers in the cyclone affected areas irrespective of discolour and shrivelled.
“The BJP is demanding Rs 50,000 crop loss compensation per acre to the affected farmers, waiving of crop loans, purchase of soaked paddy at the MSP,” he said.
BJP district president Vanama Narendra Kumar said that the government should give up its adamant attitude and take steps to protect the interest of farmers in the hour of crisis. He demanded the government to provide seeds at free of cost to the affected farmers and disburse crop insurance at the earliest.
BJP state official Spokesperson Jayaprakash Narayan alleged that the YSRCP government is diverting the funds being given by the Central government to various purposes.
The government should purchase entire paddy produce, even if it was soaked, from the farmers, he demanded. The horticulture farmers bore the brunt of the cyclone as their cotton, chilli, maize, tobacco and plantain crops were badly damaged in the cyclone, he lamented and demanded the government to assess the crop loss and disburse the compensation at the earliest.
Kisan Morcha district president Tulimilli Srinivas, Kisan Morcha Market Yardcell convenor Raya Nageswar Rao, Kisan Morcha district general secretary Chandrasekhar Reddy also spoke. A host of BJP leaders and a large number of BJP activists among those took part in the dharna.
