The BJP received Rs 351.50 crore or 72.17% of the total donations received by all political parties from electoral trusts. The TRS received Rs 40 crore or 8.21% of the total donations received by all parties from all the six electoral trusts.
The TRS got Rs 153 crore through electoral bonds and Rs 90 lakh through individual contributions totalling Rs 193 crore in FY 2021-22. Apart from electoral trusts, the BJP received Rs 614.5 crore through donations totalling Rs 950 crore.
An Analysis of Contribution Reports of Electoral Trusts for FY 2021-22 by the Association of Democratic Reforms showed that other eight political parties including SP, AAP, YSR-Congress, INC, SAD, Punjab Lok Congress Party, Goa Forward Party and the DMK received Rs 95.56 crore collectively. The YSRCP received Rs 20 crore from electoral trusts.
Yashoda Hospitals contributed Rs 10 crore to the BJP while Vivek Venkatswamy’s Vishaka group contributed Rs 3 crore. V. Productions gave Rs 5 lakh to the BJP.
89 business houses contributed Rs 475.8021 crore to electoral trusts in FY 2021-22. 62 Business Houses contributed Rs 456.30 crore to Prudent Electoral Trust, two corporates contributed Rs 10 crore to AB General Electoral Trust, 3 corporates contributed Rs 5 crore to Samaj Electoral Trust and 15 corporates contributed Rs 2.20 crore to the Independent Electoral Trust.
According to Centre’s rules, electoral trusts are required to distribute at least 95% of the total contributions received during the financial year along with the surplus brought forward from the earlier financial year to eligible political parties, before March 31 of the said financial year.
Forty individuals contributed to electoral trusts in FY 2021-22. 13 individuals contributed Rs 8.53 crore to Prudent Electoral Trust, 15 individuals contributed Rs 2.61 crore to Independent Electoral Trust and 12 individuals gave Rs 14.34 lakh to Small Donation Electoral Trust. Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel India Ltd contributed the highest amount of Rs 70 crore among all donors of Electoral Trusts, followed by Acrelor Mittal Design and Engg Centre Pvt Ltd with Rs 60 crore and Bharti Airtel Limited which contributed Rs 51 crore to various trusts.
The top 10 donors donated Rs 331 crore to electoral trusts, which forms 67.96% of the total donations received by the trusts during FY 2021-22.
