It appears that the BJP leadership has changed its political strategy in Telangana politics. The BJP is trying to occupy the second place, pushing away the BRS. The latest incidents are strongly indicating this.
In this process, the BJP is not bothering if its strategy benefits the ruling Congress in the State which is its main political rival at the national level. BJP MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s allegation that the BRS is trying to topple the Congress government, the Enforcement Directorate again summoning BRS MLC K Kavitha in the Delhi liquor scam case and appointing Chandrasekhar as Telangana party organisation incharge shows the BJP’s target in Telangana politics.
In the Assembly quota and MLC byelections for two seats, the BRS, which has 39 members strength has expected wining one seat. But the Election Commission has taken a decision to conduct the elections for two MLC seats separately, shocking the BRS. The decision of the Election Commission has become an advantage to the Congress to win both the seats. Political circles suspect that pressure from the Central government might have made the Election Commission take a decision to conduct the byelection for two MLC seats separately. It shows that the BJP is utilising every opportunity to weaken the BRS. Usually, the ruling party makes the allegation on the main opposition on toppling the government. But BJP national general Secretary and MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar made the allegation that the BRS leadership was trying to topple the Congress government after the Lok Sabha elections.
The intension of the BJP leadership is to create a bad image to the BRS in the public. During the previous Telangana Assembly elections there was strong speculation that the BRS and the BJP had a secret understanding in fighting with the Congress. Because of that only the Central government was silent over Kavitha, the daughter of former CM K Chandrasekar Rao, in the Delhi liquor scam. But ahead of Lok Sabha elections, the Enforcement Directorate has again started summoning Kavitha in the Delhi liquor scam.
Meanwhile, the BJP leadership has appointed Chandrasekhar as general secretary, who was key organisational leader for the Rajasthan party unit as Telangana incharge of the party organisation. It may be recalled that the BJP has returned to power in Rajasthan and Chandrasekhar has been appointed to the Telangana State, where the saffron party is looking to make gains in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The BJP leadership wants to win more Lok Sabha seats than the BRS in the Lok Sabha elections and start to reach its goal in occupying the second place in Telangana.
