Must read

The family and colleagues of human rights activist Professor GN Saibaba honoured his final wish by donating his body to the Anatomy Department of Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad, allowing medical students to study his remains.
His eyes had previously been donated to the LV Prasad Eye Hospital.
Over 150 first-year MBBS students, on their first day of classes at Gandhi Hospital/Gandhi Medical College, gathered to witness the handing over of the body for educational purposes. Among the crowd was Saibaba’s wife, Vasantha Kumari, who addressed the students, asking, “Do you all know who Saibaba is?”
She explained, “Saibaba was a man of determination and hard work. Despite contracting polio at the age of five, he pursued his education, earning a PhD and becoming a professor. Teaching was not just his profession but his passion. His dream was to interact with students every day. Sadly, he was wrongfully imprisoned and endured immense suffering. His final wish was to donate his body for students to study, hoping it would help advance medical knowledge, especially concerning disabilities.”
His daughter, Manjeera, said that her father wanted to contribute to the development of medical science. “It’s not a loss for us. I’m happy that his final act was for the benefit of students.”
Earlier, Saibaba’s body was kept at his residence in Moulali before being taken to Gandhi Medical College, accompanied by friends, colleagues and family members.
One of Saibaba’s students, Sai Kiran, remarked, “Just as Sir was waiting, we were also hoping he would return to teaching one day.”
K Sajaya, a social activist in Hyderabad, reflected, “A great childhood friend has gone too far, but we hope someone will continue to fight for the person he was and the cause he stood for.”
Professor Sudha Rani from the Anatomy Department commented, “There has been an increase in body donations for medical education, from people of all backgrounds, including NRIs and VIPs.”
