Mani Ratnam’s upcoming gangster drama Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan, is one of the most anticipated films of 2025. As the film gears up for a grand release on June 5, the makers dropped the official trailer, offering a dark and layered glimpse into a world of crime, betrayal, and shifting loyalties.
While the trailer has been widely praised for its intense performances and gripping visuals, one particular moment has divided social media. A scene showing a tender kiss between Kamal Haasan and actress Abhirami has sparked conversation online—some calling it bold and refreshing, others questioning its necessity.
The scene depicts Abhirami, who plays the wife of Kamal Haasan’s character, resting her head on his chest, followed by an intimate kiss. Initially, many viewers mistakenly assumed the woman in the scene was Trisha. However, it was later clarified that the moment involved Abhirami.
Adding fuel to the discussion was another line in the trailer, where Kamal’s character tells Trisha, “Madam, I’m your only Adam.” This, combined with the intimate visuals, raised eyebrows, particularly due to the significant age gap—nearly three decades—between Haasan and Abhirami.
Reactions on X (formerly Twitter) were swift and varied.
“This is the problem with us… taking and focusing on kiss scenes and intimate scenes out of the entire trailer. It seems normal and usual. Stop giving it too much focus,” commented one user.
On the other hand, another wrote, “Doing such scenes at his age with heroines who are almost half his age is not at all normal or usual. Don’t normalize these things.”
Beyond the debate, the trailer of Thug Life offers a compelling look at a brutal and evolving underworld. Kamal Haasan plays a seasoned gangster who mentors a young boy, eventually played by Silambarasan TR (STR), grooming him into a formidable force. Together, they dominate the criminal world, operating with precision and power.
But as the trailer progresses, the cracks in their brotherhood begin to show. The bond they share starts to fray with the arrival of new threats, changing power dynamics, and inner conflict. What begins as loyalty soon turns into rivalry, as ambition overshadows their shared past.
