Brahmins want neera café’s name changed

The Brahmin community has expressed its anger over the name of the neera cafe set up by the Telangana government. They are objecting to naming the neera cafe as Vedamrutham.

The community staged a protest near Necklace Road on Tuesday condemning the Telangana State Excise Department’s decision regarding the name and demanded that the name should be changed immediately.

Representatives of the Brahmin community handed over a petition to Telangana Brahmin Welfare Parishad President KV Ramanachari. They said that if the name is not changed they will hold protests. Meanwhile, Minister Srinivas Goud responded to the controversy.

The Minister said that the three Kalpa trees that were gifted to the Maharshi were palm, date palm and coconut palm and added that the Vedas described these as natural medicines.

The Minister said that ‘Kallu’ is different from Neera and promised to look into any dispute over the word Vedamrutham.It is known that the government initiated the establishment of the Neera Cafe on Necklace Road in Hyderabad. KTR laid its foundation stone. The cafe is named Vedamrutham and Telangana cuisine stalls are also being set up.
