BRS MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy has accused the Congress Government of betraying the public by imposing a heavy financial burden through the Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS). He said that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s government, which had promised transparency, is now using LRS as a tool to extort money from the public.
Speaking on Thursday, Vemula said that the BRS government had tried to ease the burden of LRS on the people, ensuring that they were not unfairly charged. However, the Congress government is now misleading the public in the name of concessions while planning to collect nearly Rs 20,000 crore. He accused Congress leaders of making one statement while in the opposition and another after coming to power.
“When the BRS government introduced the LRS, Congress leaders created a huge uproar, claiming that they would regularise plots free if voted to power. Now, how can they impose such a massive burden on the people?” he asked.
Vemula criticised the government’s plan to charge approximately Rs 1 lakh per plot, pointing out that with nearly 25 lakh applications submitted for regularisation, lakhs of families would suffer. He demanded that the government implement LRS without imposing any fees, as per the Congress’s election promise.
“If Congress leaders are honest about their commitment to the people, they must implement LRS without charging a single Rupee. Otherwise, Revanth Reddy, Uttam Kumar Reddy, Seethakka, Komatireddy and Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka should resign,” he declared.
Warning the ruling party of serious consequences, Vemula said the public would not forgive such betrayals.
“If you do not fulfil your promise, people will give you a fitting punishment on the electoral battlefield,” he said.
