BRS legislators protest wearing handcuffs, black dresses

Must read

BRS legislators staged a protest in the Assembly by wearing handcuffs and black dresses expressing solidarity with the farmers of Lagcherla. The BRS legislators demanded the release of farmers from jail and the withdrawal of all cases registered against them.

BRS MLAs G. Jagadish Reddy, Dr Palla Rajeshwar Reddy and Anil Jadav launched a blistering attack on the Congress Government over the Lagcherla farmers’ issue and accused the Congress of suppressing opposition voices and evading debates in the Assembly.
Speaking at the Assembly Media Point, the BRS leaders criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the government’s handling of the crisis.
Dr Palla Rajeshwar Reddy pointed out that despite the BRS repeatedly demanding a debate on the Lagcherla incident for two consecutive days, the government deliberately avoided a discussion.

“The Congress which preaches Assembly rules to the opposition has itself violated them. Why did the Speaker allow the ruling party to bring placards into the House? Bills were passed amidst protests without addressing the core issue,” he said.

He accused the government of being insensitive to the farmers’ plight. “While Lagcherla farmers languish in jails, the Chief Minister and his Ministers are celebrating. Farmers are shedding tears while the Congress is drowning itself in luxury,” Palla Rajeshwar said, adding that the BRS would not let the government avoid accountability on this issue.

BRS MLA G. Jagadish Reddy accused the Congress of turning the Assembly into a farce and undermining democratic institutions.

“Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has weakened all systems in the state. For two days, we demanded a debate on Lagcherla farmers, but the government ran away. Instead of facing us, the Chief Minister is leaking selective news to the media to survive,” Jagadish said.

Pointing out Revanth’s reluctance to appear in the Assembly for debates he said, “If the government has the guts, let it conduct a 15-day session. Let us discuss everything – from Formula E to Congress’s failures and BRS’s achievements. You can suppress our voices in the Assembly, but you cannot silence us among the people,” he declared.

Jagadish said the state is now under “police rule” and accused the Chief Minister of orchestrating arrests and filing false cases to suppress dissent.

“The Congress Government lacks the strength to face us directly. It is publishing false news in newspapers instead of addressing real issues. Revanth has no guts to face us or the farmers,” he added.

The BRS leaders vowed to continue their fight for justice for Lagcherla farmers and expose the Congress’s failures in both the Assembly and the public domain.

“We will stand by the farmers and oppose the government’s autocratic decisions,” Jagadish said.
