The BRS may not contest in the Karnataka Assembly election as only three days remain for filing nominations.
The BRS leadership has not done anything to select candidates for the Karnataka elections. Top BRS sources said the party has submitted a letter to the Election Commission requesting to allot their symbol to candidates who are going to contest in the Karnataka elections.
BRS sources said that if the Election Commission accepts their request then their candidates will contest in Karnataka. But so far there is no response from the Election Commission to the BRS request.
If the Election Commission refuses the BRS request or if there is no response from it the BRS will not contest in Karnataka.
Senior BRS leader Finance Minister T. Harish Rao said the BRS is not very particular about campaigning in Karnataka. If the BRS is not contesting it will have to campaign for the Janata Dal (S) headed by former PM HD Deve Gowda.
But the Janata Dal (S) is third among the three major Karnataka parties. It has no chance of coming to power on its own. So the BRS leadership is thinking whether campaigning in Karnataka will be of any use for it in Telangana.
There have been some discussions by the leaders of the BRS and the Janata Dal (S) over campaigning in Karnataka.
While the Congress and the BJP have decided on the list of their Telangana leaders for campaigning in Karnataka, the BRS leadership has not decided to ask any of their leaders to campaign in Karnataka.
While the Karnataka campaign is in full swing the BRS will focus on its Aurangabad public meeting in Maharashtra scheduled for April 24. This shows that the BRS has no interest in the Karnataka election.
