BRS petitions Speaker seeking disqualification of turncoat MLAs

Must read

BRS party MLAs led by its working president KT Rama Rao gave representation to Speaker Gaddam Prasad on protocol violations and defections.  They spoke at the Assembly media point. Sabitha Indra Reddy mentioned that after the Congress party came to power, they brought the violations of the MLAs’ protocol to the Speaker’s attention. She noted that for the past six months, government officials have been giving priority to defeated Congress MLA candidates in every constituency.
According to her, government programmes are being conducted by defeated Congress candidates without adhering to protocol. She pointed out that in Maheshwaram, a candidate, who lost and finished third in the elections, was brought on stage. Sabitha Indra Reddy stated that defeated Congress candidates are participating in government programmes wearing party scarves. She appealed to the Speaker to protect the rights of elected MLAs. Criticising the Congress government, Sabitha Indra Reddy said that in her constituency, even endowment and police officials are telling elected MLAs to adjust. She questioned if this is what is meant by public governance and Indiramma Rajyam, demanding an answer from the Congress party. She suggested that just as defeated candidates in opposition constituencies are given importance, defeated candidates in ruling party constituencies should also be allowed on stage.
She demanded that even the candidate who lost to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy be seated next to him. If necessary, she insisted that the law should be amended accordingly. Sabitha Indra Reddy mentioned that in several constituencies like Huzurabad, Malkajgiri, Secunderabad, Asifabad, and Maheshwaram, police and government officials are filing cases against local MLAs. She questioned whether raising public issues to the government and officials should result in cases being filed against MLAs. She made it clear that it is the Speaker’s responsibility to protect the rights of MLAs and requested orders be issued to the government in this regard.
Former Minister and MLA Sunitha Lakshma Reddy stated that various representations have been made to the government regarding issues related to the constituency in the past. She mentioned that Congress leaders are coming and conducting programs arbitrarily in government programs, ignoring local MLAs. According to her, government programmes are being conducted with Congress leaders as special guests. She noted that defeated Congress MLA candidates are moving around with red beacons on their vehicles. Sunitha Lakshma Reddy expressed that it seems the government has given instructions to the district machinery in this manner. She requested the Speaker to protect their rights. She also brought to the Speaker’s attention the issue of filing cases against MLAs without his knowledge. Sunitha Lakshma Reddy expressed confidence that the Speaker would protect MLAs’ rights regarding protocol violations and police cases.
Former Minister and MLA Padma Rao Goud stated that the government is conducting programs allowing defeated candidates to participate at the grassroots level. He suggested to the Speaker that defeated MLAs should also be allowed in the legislative assembly. Padma Rao Goud requested that in the upcoming legislative assembly sessions, the government should bring in defeated Congress candidates into the assembly. He warned that if such protocol violations continue, they will also approach the judiciary. Ends.
