Amid the Centre’s push for ‘One nation-One election’, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi only sees gains if simultaneous elections are held as the BRS government in the state will get additional time to complete more projects, while national leaders’ visits to Telangana will be less often.

Sources in the party said: “If (Assembly polls are) postponed, we can complete the PalamuruRangareddy Lift Irrigation Project and the Sitarama project. There won’t be a reason not to vote for us. Pending works will be done. Outstanding issues within the party will also be cleared.”

Should there be simultaneous elections, the focus will be across the country and not confined to Telangana, sources said, adding that (PM) Narendra Modi, (HM) Amit Shah could not attack BRS, but need to go across the country. “They will be spread thin. We will only contest in Telangana and Maharashtra. It is advantage us and we will get more”, sources said.

Further, if the Modi government intends to virtually extend the term of the Telangana Assembly by imposing President rule, they (BJP) will get a bad name almost like Indira Gandhi, who got badname during the Emergency.

BRS is anticipating that the Modi government would not go for elections without inaugurating the Ram Mandirreportedly on January 22. The BJP government must present a budget or atleast seek a vote on account and then there are exams in March for students. So, BRS anticipates that the elections may happen only in April or May.

Sources in BRS said that they might take it to May. “Elections are binding on the EC. It may be ‘One Nation-One Election’ or ‘One Nation, Two elections’. October 5-10 Telangana should get our notification. If not, he may push it to May. If he wants to do it, he can do it in 50phases”, sources said.
