Cabinet nod for Rs 35K-cr projects

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, approved a wide range of key decisions during an e-Cabinet meeting held at the State Secretariat on Tuesday. Ministers Kolusu Parthasarathi (Information & Public Relations, Housing) and Nadendla Manohar (Food & Civil Supplies) announced the Cabinet resolutions, which span sectors including industry, energy, tourism, education and welfare.

The Cabinet cleared 28 major investment proposals recommended by the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), with a cumulative value exceeding Rs 35,000 crore. These projects are expected to generate nearly 41,000 employment opportunities across the state.

Notable approvals include investments by Deccan Fine Chemicals, Bharat Electronics Ltd, Blue Jet Healthcare, Jupiter Renewables and PUR Energy totalling Rs 9,246 crore and generating 7,766 jobs. Mohan Spintex and ATC Tires will invest Rs 2,261 crore and create 2,125 jobs, while Wingtech Mobile Communications will invest Rs 1,061 crore in a mobile manufacturing unit, creating over 10,000 jobs. Daikin India will expand operations in Sricity with an investment of Rs 2,475 crore and 5,150 jobs.

Sensorem Photonics India will set up the state’s first semiconductor unit, offering 622 skilled jobs. The Cabinet ratified MoUs for the Quantum Valley Project with IBM, TCS and L&T, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a hub for tech innovation.

Special incentives were also approved for Ramabhadra Industries and ALEAP India. In the clean energy sector, over Rs 15,000 crore worth of new solar, wind and hybrid projects were cleared, including those by Bondada Engineering, Amplus Energy and Deshraj Solar Energy.

To enhance the tourism infrastructure in Visakhapatnam and Tirupati, the Cabinet approved major hospitality projects. Varun Hospitality will redevelop the Taj Gateway into a five-star deluxe hotel and IT space with an Rs 899 crore investment. Shravanthi Hotels & Resorts will build IBIS and Novotel hotels in Tirupati with Rs 327 crore, while Bengal Ultimate Resorts LLP will invest Rs 150 crore in a five-star resort near Tirupati. Together, these projects are expected to create over 2,200 jobs.

In a significant step for legal education, the Cabinet approved the establishment of the India International University of Legal Education and Research (IIULER) in Amaravati by the Bar Council of India Trust. The university will reserve 20 per cent of its seats for students from Andhra Pradesh.

Further approvals included setting up the headquarters of Dr B.R. Ambedkar Open University near Eluru to cater to distance learners and relocating Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University’s headquarters to Rajamahendravaram to focus on Telugu language and culture. The Cabinet also sanctioned 2,260 Special Education Teacher posts to support inclusive education for children with disabilities, following a Supreme Court directive.

Major green energy proposals were approved, including a Rs 9,000 crore solar power project by Bondada Engineering in Ananthapuramu and Sri Sathya Sai districts, and a Rs 2,920 crore wind project now being taken up by Deshraj Solar Energy Pvt Ltd. Adani Green Energy received approval for a 1,000 MW pumped storage hydro project in YSR district.

Infrastructure development decisions included the allocation of 615 acres to APIIC in Nellore for an industrial park and the provision of land to ESIC for establishing a hospital in Kurnool.

To streamline administration, the Cabinet approved the transfer of five mandals from Chittoor to Annamayya district. It also cleared the creation of 245 new posts in the Andhra Pradesh High Court to bolster judicial administration.

The Cabinet approved a proposal to provide permanent government employment to Sri Thota Veeranjaneyulu, whose father died in political violence in 2022.

In a major change to the public distribution system, the Cabinet decided to discontinue Mobile Dispensing Units (MDUs) and revert to the Fair Price Shop (FPS) model from 1 June. This move aims to eliminate irregularities such as rice diversion and overcharging. Essential commodities will be delivered directly to FPSs, while senior citizens and persons with disabilities will receive home delivery.

Under the Deepam-2 scheme, nearly 70 lakh beneficiaries have enrolled for free LPG cylinders. Efforts are on to enable direct benefit transfers.

The Cabinet decisions reflect the Naidu-led government’s focus on economic development, education, clean energy, and welfare-driven governance, with a vision to transform Andhra Pradesh into a model state for industrial and social progress.
