The Congress has demanded that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao should answer the questions raised by the CAG in its report on the Kaleshwaram Project.
The Congress raised eight questions through its Twitter handle ‘Telangana Congress@INCTelangana’ to KCR stating that the CAG’s report on the Kaleshwaram Project had exposed the BRS government’s bunch of lies.
On Saturday, Telangana Congress@INCTelangana posted a series of Tweets. The first tweet said, ‘Exclusive CAG Report on Kaleshwaram – KCR@BRSparty. We Demand Answers! The CAG has prepared a report on the Kaleshwaram Project, and a bunch of lies have been exposed, which we present to you in tweets today. The so-called Apara Bhagirathudu has only been hyping about this project, and the Congress stand is vindicated today! #KCRLies #BRSDownDown #KaleswaramScam #CAGReport #KaleswaramReport #YestoCongress”
The second tweet said, “Question 1-Exclusive CAG Report on Kaleshwaram – Total TMC Allocation. 169 TMCs of water have been allocated for irrigation from the Kaleshwaram Project. If the total ayacut is taken under consideration then this water is not sufficient for the Kharif season itself, and there will be no water at all for Rabi.”
The third tweet said, “Question 2 – Exclusive CAG Report on Kaleshwaram – tariff per unit.
The Telangana government had said that the tariff per unit of power will be Rs 3, but in reality, it is Rs 6.40. KCR & Co, your lies have been exposed by the CAG with facts and figures.”
The fourth Tweet said, “Question 3 — Exclusive CAG Report on Kaleshwaram – acres irrigated with one TMC. For other irrigation projects, the Telangana government has mentioned that as per the DPR (Detailed Project Report) that one TMC of water can irrigate 10,000 acres. However, for Kaleshwaram, this has been stated as 17,668 acres.”
The fifth Tweet said, “Question 4 — Exclusive CAG Report on Kaleshwaram – Total Cost Approved by CWC. The Central Water Commission had approved the project estimate of Rs 81,911 crore initially, and now the total cost estimate has been revised to Rs 1,49,317 crore.”
The sixth tweet said, “Question 5 — Exclusive CAG Report on Kaleshwaram – massive power requirement. Of the total electricity generated in Telangana, 46.81% has to be used for the Kaleshwaram Lift Scheme alone. Around 8,459.10 MW is needed for running the project. This will cost a massive Rs 10,374.56 crore every year.”
The seventh Tweet said, “Question 6 — Exclusive CAG Report on Kaleshwaram Project – The ‘Lift’ lies exposed. 65.76% of the ayacut under the Sriram Sagar project can be serviced by the Mid Manair Project. However, pumping up water from the flood canal to Sriram Sagar and from there to the Kakatiya canal is a waste of money. Spending Rs 1,999.56 crore for this part of the project is undesirable.”
The eighth tweet said, “Question 7 — Exclusive CAG Report on Kaleshwaram – Mallanna Sagar.
The National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) has detected some shortcomings in the 50 TMC capacity Mallanna Sagar dam. Seismic impact studies have not been conducted while planning this structure connected to the Kaleshwaram Project.
The ninth tweet said, “Question 8 — Exclusive CAG report on Kaleshwaram Project’s cost–benefit ratio. The cost-benefit ratio of the Kaleshwaram Project is only 0.75 and not 1.51 as claimed by the Telangana government. The income from industries and fisheries has been quoted higher by the Telangana government.”
