The Commissioner and Director of Mines and Geology and Role Observer for Special Summary Revision (SSR)-2025, Praveen Kumar, has stressed the importance of vigilance and accuracy during the voter list revision process for 2025. Kumar highlighted the need for thoroughness and precision, warning that mistakes in the voter list can undermine the electoral process.
“We must ensure that the revision process is thorough and accurate. Officials should take all necessary precautions, especially considering incidents from the past,” Kumar said during a review meeting. He also emphasised the need for timely and effective solutions to public requests, particularly in addressing significant differences between the population and voter lists. Kumar underscored the importance of proper communication between higher-level and lower-level officials to maintain coordination. “Coordination is key to ensuring that the revision process is carried out smoothly,” he added. District Collector MN Harendhira Prasad reported that as of October 29, the draft list included 20,14,236 voters in the district, with a gender ratio of 1027 and a General Population (GP) ratio of 752. The Collector assured that all actions are in line with Election Commission guidelines, and regular training sessions are being conducted to ensure smooth progress.
Visakhapatnam North MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju raised concerns over past discrepancies in the voter list. “In previous revisions, we found serious issues, including differences between the population and voter ratios. We ourselves identified and reported bogus votes to the authorities,” Raju said, urging further scrutiny of the lists. The meeting was attended by Joint Collector K. Mayur Ashok, DRO BH. Bhavani Shankar, EROs, AEROs, and representatives of various political parties.
