Call for respect and care for elderly

District Collector Venkatesh Dhotre has called upon the people to show respect to the elderly people and taking good care of the aged in the family.
Lighting a lamp along with Additional Collector Dasari Venu  and members of the Aged Welfare Association at a function held here o n Tuesday in connection with the International Day of  Older Persons, he said that the aged in the family always want the welfare of the family. Therefore, they should be respected.
“It is our duty to nurse them properly,” he said.
The government introduced stringent laws for the welfare of the older persons. Therefore, it would take action against the family members who neglected the care of elders, he said. Awareness programmes would be conducted with regard to the welfare of the aged persons, he said.
He observed that the aged prefer to live in their native places. He invited the senior citizens to contact him directly in case of any problems.  Efforts were under way to set up a home for the aged at Kagaznagar. Later, he felicitated the senior citizens by presenting them with shawls.
District Welfare Officer Bhaskar, District Rural Development Officer Bhanot Dattaram, president of the welfare of the aged Racharla Buchhamma, secretary Lakshmi Narayana, the aged persons, Anganwadi teachers, CDPOs, supervisors, Sakhi personnel and others took part in the event.
