The Congress Government introduced the Bhu Bharati Act, restoring the powers of the Revenue Department. People are now hoping that Bhu Bharati may free Telangana villages from the ‘settlement culture,’ which is more dangerous than ‘cancer.’

The people of Telangana had been suffering the ‘settlement culture’ for the last 10 years. The settlement culture has become a serious issue in villages. The settlement culture reached its peak after the introduction of the Dharani Portal. The easy money mongers in all villages emerged as the teams to settle issues, particularly land disputes, as the Dharani Portal took away the powers of the revenue system.

This ‘settlement culture’ has brought a new culture to villages, and the word ‘Kabja’ has become common. Once, the villages were synonymous with love, affection and innocence. Now, villages are filled with hate, kabja and the settlement culture.

This settlement culture has created a new rich at the cost of innocent people. These settlement teams have now reached such a level that they can create disputes if there were no disputes among villagers.

“We used to say, ‘Own village is like your own mother,’ but settlement teams don’t have any such sentiments. They are habituated to earning easy money by creating trouble and settling it in their own way,” Rajaiah said.

However, with the introduction of the Bhu Bharati Act, the Revenue Department has regained its lost powers and now they have the power to solve people’s problems.

“There are no rules and ethics for settlement teams, and they make easy money by settling disputes. In most cases, the settlement teams will choose like-minded people, create trouble for innocent people and suck money from them,” Rajaiah said.

A farmer named Ram Reddy said, “Now, the Bhu Bharati Act may settle these settlement teams’ menace. I hope that the Revenue Department will do justice to the public by solving their problems after going through their processes ‘Panchanamas’, in the field. The Revenue Department has solutions for all public problems. They can solve any kind of problem if they are not being influenced,” Rajaiah said.
