Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy held a meeting with representatives of political parties to discuss the cleaning up of electoral rolls in Telangana before elections.
The meeting, held at the BRKR Bhavan on Tuesday, focused on measures to improve the accuracy and integrity of the voter database. The CEO explained steps being taken to identify and eliminate discrepancies in the rolls and sought the cooperation of all parties to ensure the electoral system remains transparent and inclusive.
Among the key suggestions discussed were the establishment of polling stations inside gated communities, linking Aadhaar with voter IDs and removing the names of dead voters. Sudharshan also emphasised the legal procedures governing the addition and deletion of names from the rolls and highlighted the need to enrol first-time voters aged between 17 and 18.
Representatives of the BJP, the Congress, the BRS, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the CPM took part in the discussion and offered feedback on strengthening the voter roll system.
The CEO requested political parties to support the initiative and help raise awareness among the public about the importance of voter registration and clean electoral rolls.
