Chemotherapy facilities soon at all govt hospitals: Harish

Minister for Health T Harish Rao on Tuesday announced that chemotherapy facilities would be provided to cancer patients at all District Government Hospitals soon in the State.  

He was laying the foundation stone for a 100-bed hospital at Choutuppal which is to be built at a cost of Rs 36 crore. 

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the cancer patients would have to undergo chemotherapy in several sittings. The patients are forced to travel all the way to Hyderabad for treatment and other cities for treatment. Most of the patients cannot afford the expensive treatment in private hospitals. Against this backdrop, the State government has decided to make chemotherapy treatment available at all district Government Hospitals soon. 

Harish Rao reiterated that the State government is committed to providing quality healthcare to people belonging to all sections of people in both urban and rural areas. He recalled that the government has opened 500 Basthi Dawakhanas within the limits of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits. Apart from them, the government established Palle Dawakhanas to provide healthcare to the people in villages, he said. 

The increase in institutional deliveries in Government Hospitals to 64 per cent from a mere 34 per cent in the past showed that the people have faith in Government Hospitals. The KCR Nutrition Kits scheme would be launched in 33 districts by April-end, he said.  

He dwelt on the improvements in the Government Hospitals. A total of 2,000 beds were sanctioned in the Warangal Multi-Super Specialty Hospital and 4,000 beds in four super speciality hospitals to be set up soon. 

As for the 100-bed hospital, Harish Rao recalled that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao promised during the election campaign in the Munugode by-election that a 100-bed hospital would be opened. The hospital is being established to fulfil the Chief Minister’s promise, he said. 

Minister for Energy G Jagadish Reddy, Munugode M|LA K Prabhakar Reddy, Rajya Sabha member B LIngaiah Yadav, Zilla Parishad Chairman A Sandeep Reddy and others were present.
