Chief Minister urged to persuade Karnataka govt to release water

Must read

Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy has demanded that the Revanth Reddy government in Telangana persuade the Congress government in Karnataka to release 15 to 20 tmc ft of water released to save the standing crops in Telangana.
Addressing the media here on Tuesday, Sukender Reddy said severe drought-like conditions prevailed in Telangana and groundwater table is receding further.
During the past 10 years of KCR’s rule, Telangana has set an all-time record as the highest paddy producing State. Because of  bountiful rainfall during the period, there were considerable inflows into irrigation projects, tanks and ponds. The harvest was bountiful, he said.
Unfortunately, there were no rains nowadays. Severe drought-like conditions prevailed. Farmers have declared crop holiday under the ayacut of Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar projects as there were no inflows into the projects.
As of now, the farmers have been cultivating crops under borewells. The agricultural wells have gone dry. All crops which are in mature stage have been going dry, he said.
Therefore, the Congress government in Telangana should persuade its Karnataka counterpart to bring water from there to save the standing crops.
After March, it is likely that there will be acute shortage of drinking water too. Therefore, the State government should understand the woes of the people in advance and should initiate remedial measures.
He declared that he would support the official candidate whoever he or she is. To get good results in politics, one should work with coordination. He exuded confidence that the BRS leadership would announce candidates taking all aspects into consideration.
He said that his son is ready to contest from either Nalgonda or Bhongir.
