Chintapalli struggles with accommodation shortage

Must read

The scenic town of Chintapalli is grappling with a severe shortage of accommodation facilities, leaving district, division, and mandal-level officials, as well as tourists, in a quandary. Despite the presence of government guest houses operated by R&B, APFDC, and Zilla Parishad, the lack of available rooms has pushed visitors to private resorts in Lambasingi, situated 16 km away. Even VVIPs are compelled to utilize the police guest house.
Around two decades ago, the Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation (APFDC) constructed a conference hall and a guest house with three suites at Chintapalli Hanuman Junction. Although modernised less than five years ago, this guest house has been converted into the camp office of the APFDC Regional Manager, limiting its availability for district officials and MLA-level public representatives. Tourists and officials at the mandal and division levels are unable to secure accommodation in the APFDC guest house.
The R&B Guest House, located at Hanuman Junction, Mandal Centre, has faced a similar fate. Despite being renovated with state-of-the-art facilities after the allocation of Rs. 1.2 crore tribal sub-plan funds in 2018, the guest house is yet to open its doors due to the YCP government’s failure to sanction the remaining funds required for furniture and other essential amenities.
The Zilla Parishad guest house, near Antarla village, Chintapalli mandal center, has been rendered unusable. Previously targeted by CPI-Maoists, the guest house was repaired by the previous government but currently lacks necessary facilities such as beds, mattresses, furniture, and functional toilets. Though the VIP suite has beds, the toilets remain non-operational due to ongoing repairs.
The Santa Bayalu guest house, funded with Rs 70 lakh from CCA funds, has been under construction for a year. Initiated by the Tribal Welfare Department for the accommodation of high-ranking officials, including the District Collector, ITDA PO, Sub Collector, Ministers, and MLAs, the construction has been stalled for four months due to insufficient funds. The incomplete two-storeyed guest house awaits further funding for the installation of tiles, electricity, plumbing, windows, thresholds, and furniture.
Despite the increased importance of Chintapalli after the formation of the Alluri Sitaramaraju district, there are growing concerns that public representatives and officials are neglecting the area. The residents are urging swift action and appropriate measures to address the pressing issue of accommodation shortage in the region.
