Recent raids by the State Food Safety Task Force have uncovered alarming instances of food adulteration at several well-known hotels in Nizamabad. Investigators discovered that rotten meat was being prepared and served to patrons, in blatant disregard for safety regulations. The food safety officials inspected hotels on Saturday.
Led by Zonal Assistant Food Controller V Jyotirmayi, the task force found that many hotels were using expired chicken, mutton, prawns, and other meats. Additionally, the kitchens at these establishments were found to be in a state of poor hygiene.
On Saturday, the State Food Safety Task Force conducted raids at two star hotels, a sweet shop, and spice shops within the Mirchi compound.
During an inspection of a hotel, officials discovered 122 kg of meat improperly stored in plastic bags. They also identified and destroyed spoiled meat worth Rs 30000, along with harmful coloring agents used in cooking, masala mirchi paste, and fungus-infested vegetables. Notices were issued to the hotel management by the Zonal Assistant Food Controller.
At another big hotel, inspectors found non-vegetarian dishes made with harmful colors, and the refrigerator contained expired chili powder and masala powder. The kitchen was deemed unsanitary, lacking proper lighting and ventilation, leading to a notice being served to the management.
A sweet shop was also found to be preparing sweets in unsafe conditions. The owner received a warning that failure to improve kitchen cleanliness could result in criminal charges.
Additionally, spice shops in the area were raided, with samples collected for laboratory testing.
The Assistant Food Controller stated that actions would be taken against the hotels and restaurants based on the lab results. “Food safety is our priority, especially regarding perishable items. Our teams are conducting regular inspections at hotels,” she emphasized.
At Vamsi International Hotel, they destroyed meat mixed with harmful colors, boiled chili paste, and expired spice powders found in the fridge. Notices related to FSSAI were issued to the owners. In the Mirchi Compound area, raids were conducted at spice, chili, and turmeric production centers, collecting samples and issuing notices to the operators.
The findings have left residents of Nizamabad town in shock.
