Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu held a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat to address concerns regarding the quality and alleged use of impure ingredients in the preparation of Tirumala laddus during the previous government’s tenure. CM Naidu directed officials, including the Executive Officer (EO) of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), to submit a detailed report on the adulteration of ghee without delay.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the state government is treating the issue of adulterated ingredients in the making of the revered ‘Srivari Laddu’ with utmost seriousness, particularly given the outrage among devotees worldwide. He noted that the government is fully aware of the concerns being raised and is committed to addressing the matter.
During the meeting, CM Naidu instructed the TTD EO to provide a comprehensive report detailing the lapses that occurred during the previous government’s administration. He assured that the state would take appropriate measures after consultations with the Agama, Vedic, and Dharmika Parishads to preserve the sanctity of Tirumala.
He further reiterated that the government would uphold the faith of devotees and safeguard the traditions of the temple.
Ministers Anam Ramanarayana Reddy (Endowments), Nimmala Ramanaidu (Water Resources), Anagani Sathyaprasad (Revenue), Kollu Ravindra (Mines, Geology & Excise), and Kolusu Parthasarathy (Housing and I & PR) called for stringent action against those responsible for supplying adulterated ghee, stressing the need to restore devotees’ faith in Lord Venkateswara. Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad and other senior officials were also present to review the situation.
Meanwhile, Nandyala MP Byreddy Sabari launched a scathing attack, accusing the previous government of gross negligence. She claimed that despite evidence from laboratory tests revealing the use of animal fat in the ghee, there had been no response from the opposition leader, Jagan Mohan Reddy. MP Sabari remarked, “It is absurd to dismiss the findings as a myth. Are lab reports fictitious? Is fish oil a myth? Jagan Reddy is adept at concocting false narratives, even in relation to his father’s murder.”
The MP also highlighted the deep spiritual significance of the ‘Laddu Prasadam’ for devotees, who often wait for months to visit the temple, stand in long queues, and perform puja with the laddu at home. She condemned the alleged use of beef oil in the preparation of the laddus, calling it an act of grave sin and betrayal of Hindu beliefs.
MP Sabari further accused Jagan Mohan Reddy of appointing non-Hindus to key TTD posts, such as YV Subba Reddy and Bhumana Karunakar Reddy. Drawing a historical comparison, she likened the current situation to the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny, when soldiers rebelled after discovering that bullet casings contained beef. She asserted that the alleged adulteration of the laddus with beef and fish oil has deeply hurt Hindu sentiments and sparked widespread unrest. The MP demanded that those responsible within the YSRC be brought to justice for their actions, which she said have caused immense harm to devotees globally.
