Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed officials to conduct a comprehensive study on implementing an underground power cable system in Greater Hyderabad. He asked officials to examine the policies in other countries and submit a report.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of adopting a fully underground cable system within the Outer Ring Road limits of Hyderabad as it would enhance efficiency and reduce things like power theft and outages caused by natural calamities and energy losses. “We must implement the best underground cable system in the country right here in Hyderabad,” he said.
Revanth also suggested exploring alternative methods to ensure that all kinds of cables, including power and communication lines, are placed underground. He directed the Excise Department to devise a robust plan to avoid power supply disruptions during next summer.
The directives were issued during a review meeting held at the Integrated Command and Control Centre on Saturday. The Chief Minister, along with Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, also unveiled the Telangana Clean and Green Energy Policy-2025.
Prominent attendees included Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, Government Advisor Srinivas Raju, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, Special Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Transco CMD Krishna Bhaskar, Genco CMD Sandeep Sultania, and Singareni CMD Balaram Naik among others.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister on power demand projections, highlighting a peak demand of 16,877 MW for the upcoming summer, compared to 15,623 MW last year. The CM instructed them to ensure adequate power for agricultural and residential needs during peak demand periods in March.
He urged proactive measures to address Greater Hyderabad’s expanding electricity needs and to implement an alternative feeder system to minimize outages.
Revanth Reddy directed officials to provide free solar electricity and solar pump sets
for homes in tribal hamlets. He instructed departments like Tribal Welfare and Forest to work together to create a comprehensive plan for the project and conduct a special drive to implement solar electrification in tribal areas.
The CM also called for the immediate installation of solar power plants on government buildings, offices and schools, urging officials to engage companies interested in such projects and finalize a transparent policy for their execution.
The CM highlighted the decade-long delay in completing the 400 KV substation at Parigi, instructing officials to submit a progress report. Additionally, he recommended relocating the Goshamahal substation near the new Osmania Hospital site and upgrading it with advanced technology.
Revanth concluded by reiterating Telangana’s commitment to leading the country in renewable energy production and setting a benchmark for sustainable development.
