Telangana CM Revanth Reddy and BRS working president K T Rama Rao arrived in Chennai on Friday. Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has called a meeting related to Delimitation today, March 22.
In a show of Opposition unity, the Chief Ministers of Kerala, Telangana, and Punjab — Pinarayi Vijayan, A Revanth Reddy, and Bhagwant Mann — along with Karnataka Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, and senior representatives of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will attend the first Joint Action Committee (JAC) meeting on “Fair Delimitation” convened by the DMK in Chennai on Saturday. West Bengal’s ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) was also invited but is learnt to have decided to not send any representative.
The meeting in Chennai comes in the wake of a growing regional pushback against the parliamentary delimitation exercise, which many in the southern and eastern states fear will erode federal principles and disproportionately diminish representation from certain states.
Terming it as a historic day for Indian federalism, MK Stalin said, “I extend my warmest welcome to the leaders from Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal & Punjab who are joining us for the Joint Action Committee meeting on Fair Delimitation.
All-Party Meeting on March 5 saw 58 registered political parties of Tamil Nadu set aside their differences and came together for a singular cause—FairDelimitation.
Stalin said, “This is a defining moment in our collective journey. This is more than a meeting—it is the beginning of a movement that will shape the future of our country. Together, we will achieve Fair Delimitation!”
Under KTR’s leadership, a team comprising several senior BRS party leaders will participate in the conference. KTR has warned that the current delimitation policy weakens the representation of southern states, severely
impacting these states that play a crucial role in the country’s economic development. The BRS, which has consistently opposed this policy from the outset, will elaborate on its stance during tomorrow’s meeting.
KTR emphasized that the BRS has been at the forefront of identifying and raising awareness about the injustice faced by southern states, consistently informing the public and leading the fight on this issue. He expressed hope that, following tomorrow’s conference, all southern states would unite and stand together for the future of their people, who have paved the way for the nation’s progress. The BRS leadership believes that this conference will strengthen the unity of southern states and send a strong message of opposition to the central government regarding the proposed delimitation policy.
