Seeks aid for sports university, approval of DPRs for upgrading sports infra
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and the Minister for Tourism and Excise, Jupally Krishna Rao, met Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Mansukh L. Mandaviya, in New Delhi on Friday and requested him to give Telangana a chance to host national and international sports events including the Olympics. The Chief Minister emphasised that Telangana has the infrastructure to host such events. He highlighted the achievements of Telangana athletes who have won medals in international competitions, including the Olympics and stressed the state government’s commitment to providing world-class facilities for athletes. The CM told Mandaviya about the international-standard sports facilities available in Hyderabad like the Gachibowli Sports Complex, the Saroor Nagar Stadium, the LB Stadium, the KBR Indoor Stadium, the OU Campus, the Gymkhana Ground and the Hussainsagar which have facilities like swimming pools, multi-purpose indoor stadiums, synthetic athletic tracks, shooting ranges, football grounds, skating tracks and water sports facilities (Rowing, Kayaking, and Canoeing). He also mentioned the availability of five-star hotels and excellent air and rail connectivity in Hyderabad. The Chief Minister reminded Mandaviya that Hyderabad had successfully hosted major events in the past like the National Games in 2002, Afro-Asian Games in 2003 and the World Military Games in 2007.
