Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is set to allocate a staggering amount of Rs 141.60 crore as financial assistance under the flagship schemes ‘YSR Kalyanamasthu’ and ‘YSR Shaadi Tohfa’ directly into the bank accounts of 18,883 mothers. These deserving recipients are mothers whose daughters tied the knot during the quarter of April to June 2023 in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The momentous disbursement is scheduled to take place with a simple click of a button on August 9, within the premises of the CM Camp Office at Tadepalli.

A spokesperson for the state’s administration revealed that the Jagan Government is steadfastly committed to offering crucial financial aid to economically disadvantaged parents, empowering them to conduct their children’s marriages in a respectable and dignified manner. This benevolent initiative, facilitated through “YSR Kalyanamasthu,” focuses on providing much-needed assistance to young girls hailing from SC, ST, BC, Minorities, Disabled, and Construction worker families. Furthermore, the “YSR Shaadi Tohfa” initiative extends its support to young girls belonging to Muslim minority communities.

As of today’s disbursement, the Jagan Government has already dispensed an impressive sum of Rs. 267.20 Crores within the last nine months alone under the combined banners of “YSR Kalyanamasthu” and “YSR Shaadi Tohfa.” This substantial assistance has been directly transferred to the accounts of 35,551 beneficiaries. It is noteworthy that the eligibility criteria for availing the benefits of “YSR Kalyanamasthu” and “YSR Shaadi Tohfa” include a prerequisite of passing the 10th grade for both the brides and grooms. The incentive is strategically designed to encourage parents to ensure their children’s education up to the 10th grade.

To foster responsible and age-appropriate marriages, the schemes impose a minimum age requirement of 18 years for girls and 21 years for boys. This not only serves to discourage child marriages but also acts as an incentive for children to pursue further education. Notably, these young learners are supported through initiatives such as Jagananna Amma Vodi for those up to Intermediate, full fee reimbursement, and provision for boarding and lodging under Jagananna Vidya Deevena and Jagananna Vasathi Deevena. Thus, the dual initiatives of “YSR Kalyanamasthu” and “YSR Shaadi Tohfa” play a pivotal role in motivating young individuals to aspire for higher education and, ultimately, become graduates.

Highlighting the administration’s sensitivity to various communities, officials emphasize that the government has responded positively to the appeals from the Dudekula and Noor Basha communities. As a result, the financial assistance for these communities has been harmonized at a substantial Rs. 1,00,000, matching the provisions under “YSR Shaadi Tohfa.” The revised benefits will be extended to eligible beneficiaries within these categories, effective retroactively from the inception of these schemes.
