During the recent visit to Davos, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu detailed the State government’s plans to several organisations, inviting them to collaborate on organic farming initiatives in Andhra Pradesh.
The Andhra Pradesh government is actively promoting organic farming across the State, currently farming in 5,00,000 hectares. The government aims to transition four million farmers to organic farming by 2028-29, ultimately cultivating organic crops on five million acres. To achieve this goal, the government is taking up various initiatives, including educating farmers on the benefits of organic agriculture through the Farmers Empowerment Organisation and extensively promoting opportunities in this sector.
Among those who met the CM were representatives from Pegasus Capital Advisors Chairman Craig Cogut, Operating Advisor Gina McCarthy, and Producers Trust CEO Keith Agoda, where they discussed potential areas of cooperation.
The collaboration will focus on providing assistance in areas such as agriculture, production, sustainability, and marketing. The firms will help establish an end-to-end connection system from farmers to consumers, develop markets, finance initiatives, manage data, and set up infrastructure.
They will also facilitate financial support from both public and private sectors and promote Andhra Pradesh as a Global Centre of Excellence for organic farming.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister elaborated on the State’s opportunities, goals, and current circumstances to the representatives. He noted the changing food habits of the public and increasing awareness about health. The Chief Minister emphasised the growing importance of food product certification and traceability, encouraging farmers and producers to embrace these trends. Expressing his vision for organic farming, he said he believes it can awaken a consciousness among farmers, leading to the achievement of their shared goals.
The partnership between the Andhra Pradesh government and Pegasus Capital Advisors, along with Producers Trust, will be formalised through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), paving the way for a robust organic farming ecosystem in the State.
