Former minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Kakinada district president Kurasala Kannababu has criticised the State government for failing to spread festive cheer among the people during Sankranti
Addressing the media on Sunday, he pointed out the sharp rise in essential commodity prices, increased electricity tariffs, and the lack of welfare initiatives, which he said have left the underprivileged struggling to celebrate the festival.
Kannababu lamented that rural families, once beneficiaries of YSRCP’s welfare schemes, are now grappling with financial hardships and despair. He accused the ruling coalition of celebrating Sankranti within its leadership circles while ignoring the struggles of the common people. Highlighting the neglect of flagship schemes such as “Ammavodi” and “Rythu Bharosa,” Kannababu alleged delays in initiatives like “Talli ki Vandanam.” He recalled that during the YSRCP regime, welfare funds were released ahead of Sankranti, ensuring even the poorest families could partake in the festivities.
The former minister also raised concerns over the lack of transparency in the operations of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). He questioned the involvement of unqualified individuals in reviews and alleged misuse of visitor data, demanding accountability from the government.
Responding to TDP leader Nara Lokesh’s claims about industrial stagnation, Kannababu countered by highlighting the achievements of the YSRCP government. He cited projects like the Greenko Renewable Energy initiative and the establishment of industrial clusters, which he said were implemented despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. He dismissed Lokesh’s claims that industrialists were hesitant to invest in the state as baseless and lacking evidence.
Kannababu also commended the YSRCP’s efforts in transforming education through initiatives like “Nadu-Nedu,” “Ammavodi,” and “Vidya Deevena,” which have improved school infrastructure and empowered students. He urged the ruling coalition to prioritise governance and fulfilling promises rather than resorting to baseless criticism of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s leadership.
