‘Cold storage plants should have fire safety certificates’

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Commissioner HM Dhyanachandra has instructed the Kedareswarapeta Mango Market’s fruit merchants that they should have trade licences. He directed them to follow fire safety measures for their cold storage plants to avoid accidents.
Dhyanachandra, along with the VMC officials, visited the Kedareswarapeta Mango Market and inspected many shops and cold storage plants. He spoke to the traders regarding sanitation, fire safety measures, traffic regulation, and other issues.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhyanachandra said that every cold storage should have fire safety measures following the guidelines from the Fire Department, and obtain a fire safety certificate from the department. Those cold storage plants which have no fire safety certificates so far were given 30 days to obtain it.
Further, he asked the traders and the Mango Growers Association representatives to keep the market clean. He also directed that the vehicles coming to the market should create a traffic issue there.
Later, Commissioner Dhyanachandra visited the VMC Hospitals at Mutyalampadu, Gymkhana Grounds and Hanumanpeta in the city. He directed the officials concerned to improve health facilities in all VMC Hospitals. If any hospital requires repair works, officials should take the necessary steps in this regard immediately, he added.
District Fire Officer Malyadri and Regional Fire Officer Venkateswara Rao, Fire Station Officer Raja, VMC In charge Chief Medical Health Officer Dr Suresh Babu, Assistant Medical and Health Officer Dr Baba Srinivas, and others accompanied the Commissioner.
