In a swift move to tackle child and maternal malnutrition, the district administration is gearing up for a massive distribution of take-home ration kits under the YSR Sampurna Poshan scheme. The initiative, scheduled for December 22, targets pregnant and lactating women across the district. District Collector Nagalakshmi confirmed the plan, stating that “combating anemia among vulnerable groups” is the primary objective. These kits, packed with essential nutrients, will be distributed to 15,076 beneficiaries through 1,372 designated centers.
“Logistics are in full swing,” Nagalakshmi assured, explaining that 9,318 kits have already been dispatched to various mandals. With all but six mandals equipped, she expects the remaining kits to reach their destinations by Thursday, ensuring seamless distribution on Friday. Anganwadi centers will serve as the distribution hubs, with ICDS supervisors overseeing the process under the guidance of Secretariat in-charges. This ensures smooth flow and efficient delivery to the target beneficiaries.
The District Collector further addressed another crucial aspect: rental support for Anganwadi centers. 1,182 out of the total 2,499 centers in Visakhapatnam operate in rented spaces. Recognizing their importance, the administration has released Rs. 1,20,36,441 to clear rent payments until November, eliminating any outstanding dues.
This proactive approach highlights the district’s commitment to the YSR Sampurna Poshan scheme. By actively ensuring both nutritional support for mothers and children and operational stability for Anganwadi centers, the administration sets a strong example of comprehensive implementation.
