NTR District Collector Dr G Srijana has implemented a special initiative aimed at enhancing governance for the benefit of the people. As part of this initiative, she has appointed Special Officers to oversee the effective implementation of the State government’s key programmes and welfare schemes at the grassroots-level. These Special Officers have been assigned to each of the 16 mandals in the district, except for the four mandals within Vijayawada Urban.
The role of the Special Officer is pivotal, as they are tasked with ensuring that government initiatives are executed efficiently and reach the intended beneficiaries. To empower them further in their duties, Collector Srijana has bestowed them with special authority and responsibility.
As per the duty chart given by the Collector, these Special Officers are looking at the duties of mandal officers and village secretaries. The Collector has also given them powers to inspect schools, Anganwadi Centres, Welfare Hostels, Primary Health Centres, Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBK), and Village Secretariats every Wednesday. The remarks should be written and signed as per the instructions and sent to the Collector. Based on the report, she will take action.
They should also inspect the works under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), R&B, Panchayat Raj and Rural Water Supply (RWS). The data collected as per the checklist should be signed and a detailed report should be submitted to the Collector. For this purpose, Dr Srijana has set up a WhatsApp group for Special Officers.
If the mandal officials cause trouble to the people or make them roam around the offices, they can immediately complain to the Special Officers, said sources. They will in turn submit the remarks to the Collector, who will take action against the respective mandal officials if necessary.
