District Collector MN Harendhira Prasad has emphasised the need for Anganwadi staff to prioritise the prevention of anaemia among pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children under six. He stressed the importance of regular blood tests and timely interventions to address this health issue.
Speaking at a Nutrition Month event organised by the Women Development and Child Welfare Department, the Collector highlighted the significance of the Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyan programme, which aims to improve nutritional status across the State. He noted that anaemia in pregnant women can lead to health complications for both mothers and their children, and urged staff to ensure such conditions are avoided.
The Collector also highlighted the importance of mothers and pregnant women taking advantage of the government’s nutrition programmes, including breast milk and supplementary nutrition for babies. He highlighted the need for proper childcare and education, with a special focus on the mother tongue.
As a symbolic gesture, the Collector encouraged participants to plant saplings named after their mothers, emphasising the importance of environmental conservation. He also called for using empty spaces behind homes for planting, and shared the government’s goal of planting one crore saplings under the Vanam-Manam initiative. Following his address, the Collector participated in a mass Seemanthalu and Annaprasana ceremony.
