Week-long safety audit to rectify deficiencies
In the wake of the recent accident at Escientia Advanced Sciences, District Collector MN Harendhira Prasad has called for a significant overhaul of safety standards across all industries in the district. During a meeting with officials and industrialists, the Collector announced a week-long safety audit to identify and rectify deficiencies. “We must place the safety of our workers at the forefront,” the Collector emphasised. “A comprehensive safety audit will be conducted, and any shortcomings must be addressed immediately.”
Prasad highlighted the importance of raising awareness about potential hazards, mandating mock drills at all industrial sites by September 30. “These drills are crucial to prepare both workers and nearby residents for emergencies,” he said. The Collector also announced plans for frequent inspections of the 57 industrial units in the district. “A joint inspection team will verify compliance with safety audits, mock drills, and basic facilities.”
He urged industries to provide first aid kits, appoint paramedical staff, and designate a safety in-charge. “Training workers on self-protection and emergency response is paramount,” the Collector stressed. To enhance communication, the Collector announced the creation of a portal for stakeholders to share safety measures. “This portal will allow everyone to stay informed and contribute to maintaining high safety standards.”
The Collector advised industrialists to focus on workers’ welfare rather than solely pursuing profits. “The well-being of our workers is integral to the success of our industries,” he stated. He also directed industries to comply with NGT standards for waste management. “Regular medical camps should be conducted, and all necessary facilities must be in place by the end of October,” the Collector urged.
