Krishna District Collector DK Balaji has issued urgent instructions to the officials on flood duty to remain vigilant until the floodwaters from River Krishna fully recede. Despite the recent reduction in flood inflows and rainfall, Balaji emphasised the need for ongoing caution and preparedness, during a review meeting with district-level officials at the Collectorate in Machilipatnam on Monday.
During the meeting, the Collector instructed the officials to stay alert as the Prakasam Barrage has experienced its highest-ever flood inflows of 11.43 lakh cusecs. Although flood levels are decreasing, there remains a risk of complications. So, the officials must maintain their diligence, he said.
Further, he said the drainage wing officials are particularly tasked with monitoring streams and taking precautionary measures to prevent breaches, ensuring the stability of flood management systems. Balaji urged officials to continue assisting affected populations by collaborating with rescue teams. Those stranded in flooded areas are to be reported to the control room for prompt action, he added.
Meanwhile, he said efforts should be made to relocate people affected by the flood and ensure that all rescue operations are conducted efficiently.
Krishna district in-charge DRO G Sri Devi, ZP CEO Anand Kumar, RWS SE Siva Prasad, DEO Tahera Sultana, DSO Parvathi, DMHO Dr Geethabai, and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
