Collector calls upon people to pledge eyes

West Godavari District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani has called upon people to come forward to donate eyes.
She participated as a chief guest at a programme to mark the 39th national eye donation awareness fortnight organized by the Lions Club on the campus of Vishnu Engineering College here on Tuesday.  
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that the National Eye Donation Awareness fortnight was being organised from August 25 to September 8. She lamented that lack of sight is very painful in life and that eye donation can do a lot of good for
society.
Everyone should be aware that by donating the retina of the deceased, sight can be provided to two people.
“For the prevention of blindness, large-scale awareness rallies should be held to create awareness about eye donation. Moreover, special attention should be paid to the prevention of blindness,” the Collector observed.
The Collector said that eyes could be collected within 6 hours after death and the eyes give sight to the blind which gives a new lease of life.  “Today I am filling out the eye donation pledge form from this platform. I appeal to the people also to come forward towards eye donation,” Collector Nagarani said. The District Collector administered a pledge with all eye donations.
RDO M Acyut Ambarish, Global Service Coordinator and Lions International CH Krishnam Raju, Bhimavaram Lions club president PJ Murthy Raju, DMHO Dr D Umamaheshwar Rao and Vishnu Engineering Collector Director Dr.P Srinivasa Rao were among those who attended the programme.
