NTR District Collector Dr S Dilli Rao has said that the District Medical and Health Department authorities have arranged as many as 1,008 centres for conducting the Polio vaccination drive for children in the age group of 0-5. The Medical Department has set up vaccines to provide polio drops for 2.48 lakh children, he said.
In view of the immunisation drive to be conducted for three days from March 3 to 5, Collector, Dilli Rao along with Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Mayor Rayana Bhagya Lakshmi, flagged off the Pulse Polio awareness rally at the Old Government General Hospital in the city on Saturday. The rally started from the Old GGH and went on via Gandhinagar, Tummalapalli Kalakshetram and returned to the Old GGH.
Speaking on the occasion, Collector Dilli Rao said that the steps taken by the Central and State governments in the last 20 years, to provide Pulse Polio drops to children have given good results. Despite there being no polio disease in the State, however, the government has continued the Pulse Polio drive to protect children from the disease, he said.
Further, he stated that the District Medical and Health Department has made elaborate arrangements for conducting the drive a success. The district administration has arranged 1,008 centres to provide polio drops to 2.48 lakh children. Also, there are 1.11 lakh polio drops ready to conduct the programme, he added.
