District Collector MN Harendhira Prasad has underscored the indispensable role of doctors in delivering comprehensive cancer care to all patients. Speaking at the second annual meeting of the National Cancer Grid AP Chapter, Prasad called for unified efforts to curb cancer through proactive preventive measures. Highlighting the disturbing increase in cancer cases due to lifestyle changes, Prasad stressed the urgency of the situation. He pointed out the vital function of the National Cancer Grid in enabling medical professionals to share insights on the latest treatments and procedures in cancer care. The District Collector affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to providing free, high-quality medical services to cancer patients and improving their quality of life.
“Cancer is a growing menace that requires our immediate attention,” Prasad stated. “The changes in our modern lifestyle have contributed significantly to the rise in cancer cases. It is crucial for medical professionals to stay updated with the latest advancements in treatment and care. The National Cancer Grid plays a pivotal role in this regard, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among doctors,” he added.
Prasad emphasised the importance of continuous meetings for the AP chapter of the National Cancer Grid to keep abreast of the latest developments in cancer treatment. He assured the audience of the district administration’s full support for the collaborative cancer services offered by the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital at KGH. He also urged the public to make healthier lifestyle choices to reduce cancer risk. “Prevention is always better than cure. Simple lifestyle changes can significantly reduce the risk of cancer. I urge everyone to adopt healthier habits and undergo regular screenings.”
The Director of Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Visakhapatnam, Dr Umesh Mahant Shetty highlighted the progress made by the National Cancer Grid in standardising cancer treatment protocols across the State. “Our goal is to ensure that every cancer patient, irrespective of their location or economic status, receives the best possible care. The National Cancer Grid facilitates this by bringing together the expertise and resources of various institutions.” The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthen the National Cancer Grid’s initiatives and expand its reach to more regions, ensuring that advanced cancer care becomes accessible to all.
