Rangareddy District Collector C Narayana Reddy conducted an unannounced inspection of the Government Community Hospital in Shadnagar on Friday. He expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of cleanliness and hygiene within the facility. The surprise visit was aimed at assessing the hospital’s functioning and addressing various issues affecting patient care.
During the inspection, the collector was accompanied by Local Revenue Divisional Office NR Sarita, Hospital Superintendent Srinivasa Reddy, Tahsildar Parthasarathy and Municipal Commissioner Cheema Venkanna. Upon arrival, Collector Narayana Reddy noted the unkempt surroundings and improper sanitation, including a disorganised parking area. He immediately instructed Municipal Commissioner Cheema Venkanna to ensure that the hospital’s premises are kept clean and well-maintained.
Further inspecting the wards, the Collector expressed disappointment at the lack of hygiene, particularly pointing out the dirty bed sheets on hospital beds.
He reprimanded the staff for their negligence and emphasised the need for treating patients with courtesy and building trust in the medical services provided at the government hospital. Narayana Reddy underscored that the government has allocated sufficient funds to ensure quality healthcare for the poor, and he urged hospital staff to utilise these resources effectively.
He also highlighted the need to increase the number of deliveries at the hospital, setting a target of 300 deliveries per month. He questioned why the number of deliveries remained low despite having three gynecologists on staff, contrasting this with private hospitals where individual gynecologists handle hundreds of deliveries.
Narayana Reddy issued a stern warning to medical personnel against working at private hospitals during government hours, stating that strict action would be taken against those found violating this rule.
To ensure ongoing improvement in service quality, the collector directed RDO Sarita to conduct weekly inspections of the hospital.
Hospital Executive Officer Srinivas Reddy brought up the issue of staff shortages, to which the Collector assured him that steps would be taken to resolve the problem swiftly.
The collector sought feedback from journalists present at the inspection, who raised various concerns about the hospital’s operations.
