District Collector M Venugopal Reddy said that mock drills on testing, tracking, and treatment were conducted as part of facing the predicted coronavirus third wave.
Collector Venugopal Reddy inspected the mock drill on Covid-19 preparedness conducted under the direction of the District Medical and Health Department at Guntur Government Comprehensive Hospital on Tuesday.
He inspected the liquid oxygen plant, Jagananna Prana Vayu plant and oxygen cylinder plants set up for backup in the hospital and spoke to the technical experts about their functioning and maintenance.
The Collector inspected the Covid OP, triage center, and testing sections set up for those with suspected symptoms in the casualty building. He directed the officials of the Medical and Health Department to make all arrangements as a part of early preparedness in view of the past experiences of Covid-19.
Venugopal Reddy inquired about the details of how many tests are currently being conducted, availability of test kits, testing equipment, details of available beds, masks, gloves, medicines, availability of oxygen and human resources.
GGH Superintendent explained to the Collector that steps taken in Guntur Government Comprehensive Hospital regarding Covid-19 and said that a special Covid OP has been allocated for Covid patients at Podili Prasad Building in the hospital, where all types of tests related to Covid will be done.
According to the severity of the disease, rapid tests are conducted for the patient in emergency situations. She said that depending on the health condition of the positive patients, they will be admitted to the respective ward or ICU and treated.
The Superintendent said that 30 rooms would be set up in the B class ward of the hospital especially for Covid patients, and if the number of Covid cases is high, wards 219 and 220 would also be set up.
The Collector told reporters that in the wake of the spread of a new variant of Covid around the world, the mock drill was conducted under the auspices of the Medical and Health Department as part of the pre-preparedness arrangements to deal effectively with unexpected situations due to Covid. Medical college Principal Dr Padmavati and DM and HO Dr Sumaya Khan were among those who were present.
