As part of the Road Safety Month celebrations, NTR District Collector Dr S Dilli Rao released books and a poster featuring road safety signs and symbols at the collectorate in Vijayawada on Monday.
The event was hosted by NTR District Transport Department Deputy Commissioner M Purendra at the Pingali Venkayya Meeting Hall on the premises of the collectorate. Joint Collector Dr P Sampath Kumar, DRO SV Nageswara Rao, and other dignitaries were present.
Collector Dilli Rao emphasised the importance of following road safety rules and regulations to avoid accidents caused by negligent driving and overspeeding. He noted that even small mistakes by drivers can lead to big accidents. He also expressed concern over several people losing their lives in road accidents, which can cause financial troubles for their families.
He said that these road safety signs and symbols would be very useful for a safe journey. To prevent road accident deaths, the Collector asked the officials to book cases against two-wheeler users for reckless riding. Traffic police asked to pay more attention to the issue.
He also recommended that the Transport and Police departments focus on autos that carry more passengers than they are supposed to and make wearing helmets compulsory.
Finally, the Collector released a wall poster concerning National Girl Child Day. A programmme will be organised by the District Child Protection Unit, District Women, Child Rights Advocacy Foundation, and Child Welfare Department on January 24.
